SUMMARY:Bright Light Projects Cameroon Celebrates International Day of Women and Girls in STEM in Buea- Cameroon February 08\, 2024
DESCRIPTION:Today the 8th of February 2024\, Bright Light Projects (BLP) team in Buea Cameroon successfully organized an outreach program at Mbeni High School Buea. The team engaged both Girls and boys on the importance of STEM education and the opportunities available especially with technological advancement and innovation. \nThis was in commemoration of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science which is on the 11 of February yearly. The program was facilitated by the BLP team members. It was a success thanks to the collaboration of all team members \nSeveral challenges have been launched this year for example the NATO Women and Girls in Science 2024 challenge aims to inspire young women to pursue and further their careers in Science\, Technology\, Engineering\, and Mathematics (STEM) support for women in STEM-related disciplines\, and to contribute to the diversity and inclusivity of women in this field. \nSTEM is a major yardstick for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls worldwide. This will contribute greatly and accelerate the 2030 Agenda in terms of inclusive global prosperity and economic development within the framework of the three pillars of sustainability namely: Economic development\, Social inclusion\, and environmental protection \n“On this International Day of Women and Girls in Science\, let’s reiterate this fundamental message: women need science\, and science needs women. Only by tapping into all sources of knowledge\, all sources of talent\, can we unlock the full potential of science\, and rise to the challenges of our time” Audrey Azoulay UNESCO Director-General.

SUMMARY:Bright Light Projects Launches Young Men Entrepreneurship Program in Cameroon – August 29\, 2023
DESCRIPTION:“We can’t keep building and empowering young girls for them to go back home and be abused by the young boys we have neglected”\, is the famous slogan from BP Executive Director Franco Bonghan.  Once asked if Bright Light Projects (BLP) is a feminist organization\, the response was NO\, BLP strives for gender parity. \nOn Tuesday\, August 29\, 2023\, BLP Cameroon will be launching a new program titled “Young Men Entrepreneurship” (YME) at its headquarters office in the city of Bamenda in the northwest region of Cameroon. \nThe focus of the YME program is on Skills development\, entrepreneurship\, and mentorship for Young men ages 18 – 25. Second chance education\, reintegration of young men into society torn apart by varying difficulties. If the goal of Gender mainstreaming is to achieve gender equality\, then it requires gender-specific actions whenever men or women are in a disadvantaged position. AT BLP\, we strive for gender parity. Engaging young boys and men in the gender equality campaign require that we engage boys and young men positively empowering them with the necessary skills and tools to better understand and articulate issues of gender for women and girls. \nThe Anglophone crisis has brought untold stories of hardship to the northwest and southwest regions of Cameroon deepening the already fragile economic situation. In a country where youth unemployment is high\, there is a need to engage young men and women with skills that would transform and empower them to be change agents and role models in their communities. \nThe BLP team in Bamenda had gone through a rigorous vulnerability assessment in different communities to interview\, select\, and prepare beneficiaries for the YME program. The BLP team had also signed a special memorandum of Understanding with different trainer centers where the beneficiaries will be undertaking training for the next 12 months in line with BLP’s vision to promote and support our beneficiaries to become self-reliant and contribute positively to the development of their communities. \nEngaging boys and young men is a proactive approach to safeguarding gains made toward gender equality because they become key stakeholders in promoting\, understanding\, and advocating for gender equality. They become ambassadors of empowerment of girls and young women. This is important and will provide for the necessary cultural shift of male dominance dismantling customary and institutional laws that have promoted gender inequality for so long. \nThe entire BLP team is excited about this new opportunity and we look forward to partnering with other key partners and CSOs to expand the YME vision to other BLP operational communities and countries. \n#UNWomen #GenderEuality ##genderParity #GenderBalance #GenderMainstreaming #CulturalShift #Boys #YoungMen #Entrepreneurship #Empowerment #Cameroon #BLP

SUMMARY:BLP at the Women Empowerment and the Family Centre Buea with other CSOs to Advocate for the Boy-Child
DESCRIPTION:The boy-child\, despite how society chooses to treat him\, is still vulnerable.\nHe is a child just like the girl-child\, and therefore\, should be handled with\ncare. We should not sit back and assume that because he is male\, he will figure his way out of problems. \nThe WEEK-END WITH BOYS PROJECT is to educate and engage boys in a more holistic approach to gender equality and addresse their own specific vulnerabilities that will have the potential to benefit both boys and girls for a sustainable community. \nThe project will subject 100 boys from aged 14-25\, residing in Buea Municipality to an intensive training in life and business skills trianing\, motivational and educative talks\, games\, Quiz\, cooking competition etc. \nThe boot camp will be held on 18th and 19th August 2023 at the Women’s Empowerment and the Family Centre Buea under the theme\nDevelop your Talents and Embrace your Uniqueness. \nThe program is proudly sponsored by The Bony Dashco’s Foundation in collaboration with other CSOs. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Bright Light Projects 2022 Annual Fundraiser Gala
DESCRIPTION:BRIGHT LIGHT PROJECTS 2022 ANNUAL FUNDRAISER Gala \n  \nPartying For a Good Cause With Bright Light Projects \nhttps://facebook.com/events/s/bright-light-projects-2022-ann/788627898995716/ \n  \nEvent Theme\n*Fighting Period Poverty for Young Girls\nTraining BLP Beneficiaries in the production of High Quality Reusable Sanitary Pads* \n Date: Friday November 18\, 2022 \nVenue: Hilton Houston Westchase\, 1999 Westheimer Rd\, Houston\, TX 77042 \nEvent Start Date: Nov 18\, 2022 7:00PM EDT \nEvent End Date: Nov 18\, 2022 11:45PM EDT \n*Table Service Available*\n*Sponsorship Packages Available* \n  \nWomen and girls across the continent already experience discrimination based on gender across all areas of their social and economic life and taking care of their menstrual health and hygiene shouldn’t be another discrimination to be faced especially for rural women and girls. \nUNESCO says 1 in 10 girls in Africa miss school because they don’t have access to menstrual products or because there aren’t adequate toilets to use at school. Others will drop out of school altogether sometimes due to lack of courage to deal with the “social Stigma” about menstruation. \n“Period poverty can expose young girls to various infections as their inability to access affordable and safe sanitary products can lead them to using unhealthy alternatives\, which puts their health and safety at risk\,” \nSome women and girls who can’t afford sanitary products use foam and cloth strips for example\, while others use newspapers and rags. \nThe World Bank reports that poor menstrual hygiene can lead to dangerous health risks like reproductive and urinary tract infections\, which can lead to future infertility and birth complications; while not having access to hand-washing facilities can lead to the spread of other infections\, like Hepatitis B and more. \nPeriod Poverty limits the potential of Girls and women\, and widens the gender inequality gap which is a major contributor to global poverty \nThank you for your donations and support! \n  \nClick here to get your ticket or go to this link below\nhttps://www.vipsocio.com/event/bright-light-projects-2022-annual-fundraiser-gala-copy
