450 benefit from BLP Annual Back To School Event

In an effort to complement Government effort in delivering quality education, the 2021/2022 BLP Annual Back to School Event registered great success empowering about 450 beneficiaries in Cameroon, Sierra Leone, and Nigeria. BLP Annual Back to School Event is a signature event empowering BLP beneficiaries across our operational communities in line with providing quality education as part of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal # 4 on Quality Education for all by the year 2030.


September 7-12, 2021 in northern Sierra Leone Bombali District Makeni, Bright Light Projects Sierra Leone (BLPSL) team took the distribution to our communities of operation to get a better rapport with key stakeholders including caregivers, counselors, chiefs, village heads, etc. Communities that benefited this year include: Makeni municipality, Rosint Community in the Gbanti chiefdom, Pate Bana community in Bombali Shebora Chiefdom, Massathi, and Romanor Communities. Beneficiaries received uniforms, books, geometry sets, bags, pens, NPSE & BECE fees, pencils, etc.. Stakeholders from Government line ministries were present who all gave word of advise to beneficiaries, caregivers and parents. It should be noted our beneficiaries scored a 96% promotional rate in Sierra Leone last academic year 2020/2021.


In Cameroon, It was the first edition of the BLP Annual Back To School Event covering villages and communities in the south west region of Buea mostly internally Displaced Persons IDP kids from the ongoing anglophone crisis driving women and children from the villages to big cities to seek refuge and security. IDP kids from about 6 different villages in Buea municipality received school supplies. Distribution was done in each community by BLP Cameroon (BLPC) team involving parents, caregivers, and stakeholders. Communities benefiting include: Likombe, Bwassa, Bonakanda, Bova 1, Bova 2, and Molyko Slum area. Community stakeholders, local chiefs and village heads were so happy and expressed more help to be given to these vulnerable kids. BLPC team had some IDP mappings done in Buea, Bamenda and Bonaberi in Douala early this year.


In Nigeria, it was the 4th Annual Back to School Distribution Event at the Ekpuk refugee camp on September 14, 2021 in Mkpat Enin local Government area in Akwa Ibom state Nigeria. Bags, Books, crayons, uniforms, and desks were provided. Bright Light Projects Nigeria (BLPN) team worked hard with local carpenters to produce the desks on time. Beneficiaries from this camp are Cameroonians who fled the country in 2017 for refuge in Nigeria mostly women and children from Ndian Division in the south west region of Cameroon.


BLP 2021/2022 Back to School distribution was great success cross all BLP operational communities in Nigeria, Cameroon and Sierra Leone. We thank you for your support in helping us fulfill our vision of supporting our beneficiaries to become self reliant and contribute positively to the development of their communities.
