As part of activities commemorating World Recycling Day on March 18, 2024, Bright Light Projects
(BLP) Launched its Environmental Sustainability Manual outlining key policies, procedures, and best
practices for minimizing the organization’s environmental footprint while promoting the 5 C’s of
environmental sustainability: Consciousness, Conservation, Community, Culture, and Commerce.
The theme for 2023 Global Recycling Day is “Recycling Heroes” Created in 2018, by the Global
Recycling Foundation, this annual celebration seeks to recognize and celebrate, the importance recycling
plays in preserving our natural ecosystems, lowering carbon emissions, and securing the future of our
planet.
Leaders, businesses, communities, and individuals are also being asked to use March 18 th as a day to
pledge to become better recyclers, to lower waste, and to reduce, reuse, and recycle more.
BLP’s Environmental Sustainability Matrix is a blend of action-oriented policies, procedures, and
campaigns integrated into BLP’s 13 core elements of environmental sustainability namely:
Environmental Conservation through Reforestation, Sustainable Agriculture,
Renewable Energy, Waste Management, Product Life Cycle (End-of-Life) EO, Collaboration and
Partnership, BLP Beneficiaries/Trainees as Advocates for Environmental Protection, Green Purchasing,
Eco-friendly Products, Employee Engagement, Community Outreach, Monitoring and Evaluation,
Continuous Improvement.
BLP is calling on partners and other civil society organizations to lend their voices to the health and
environmental consequences of plastic, water, and air pollution underscoring the importance of
sustainable waste management systems as we all fight to preserve planet Earth.
If we could all think about the three R’s of Waste Management: Reduce the amount of the Earth’s
resources we use, Reuse rather than dispose, and always find out if this could be of use to someone else?
Recycle or repurpose that material into something else to save our planet.
The Executive Director of BLP Mr. Franco Bonghan announced that BLP is seeking partners in scaling
three key projects aimed at galvanizing efforts and awareness in support of preserving our planet. These
projects are:
- Reforestation Hope: A collaborative initiative for sustainable landscapes in Bamenda, Cameroon,
and Makeni, Sierra Leone (Launched January 10, 2024). - Promoting Sustainable Waste Management and Economic Opportunity through Plastic
Recycling: In Bamenda, Cameroon, and Makeni, Sierra Leone (Launched June 05, 2023). - Restoring Hope; A waste management Initiative for Conflict-Affected regions in Cameroon
