Bamenda, Cameroon, July 11, 2025 – Bright Light Projects (BLP), in partnership with New Vision for an Eco-friendly Environment, hosted a dynamic working session with interns from the University of Bamenda as part of the BLP Reforestation Hope Project. This initiative, held in the Northwest Region of Cameroon, aimed to equip young change agents with the skills and knowledge necessary to drive community development, eradicate poverty, and enhance food security through sustainable agricultural practices.
The session highlighted the crucial role of collaboration in promoting community resilience and environmental sustainability. Interns were trained in grafting fruit trees and nurturing them, aligning with BLP’s mission to promote innovative and clean agricultural practices. These efforts are designed to scale food production while addressing the triple planetary crisis of climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
BLP’s recent accreditation with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) underscores its commitment to environmental stewardship. The organization recognizes the urgent need to educate and mentor local communities, particularly youth, in sustainable practices to combat climate change and build resilient futures. By empowering interns from the University of Bamenda, BLP is cultivating a new generation of leaders dedicated to transforming broken communities through environmental action.
“Youth are the backbone of sustainable change,” said a BLP spokesperson. “Our Reforestation Hope Project not only plants trees but also seeds hope, equipping young people with the tools to drive food security and environmental sustainability in Bamenda.”
The initiative also highlighted the importance of strategic partnerships. By collaborating with organizations like New Vision for an Eco-friendly Environment, BLP is amplifying its impact and aligning with global frameworks such as the SDGs and UNEP’s mission to address environmental challenges. These partnerships are vital to scaling innovative solutions, from agroforestry to climate-smart agriculture, that enhance livelihoods and protect ecosystems.
Since its founding in 2012, BLP has been dedicated to giving vulnerable communities a “hand-up, not a hand-out,” through skills development and capacity building. With its special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) since 2021, BLP continues to contribute to global discussions on sustainable development, focusing on sustainable food systems, environmental stewardship, and youth empowerment.
The Reforestation Hope Project is a testament to BLP’s vision of fostering resilient communities in Bamenda and beyond. By integrating tree planting, agricultural innovation, and community engagement, the project is paving the way for a greener, more equitable future.
