Our Environment, Our Future

Our Environment, Our Future: is Bright Light Projects’ flagship environmental education initiative empowering secondary school students in Cameroon’s Northwest and Southwest regions and Sierra Leone’s Northern Province with the knowledge, skills, and passion to become active environmental stewards.

Through hands-on reforestation, green skills training, waste management, and sustainability education, the project builds climate resilience, food security, and long-term community leadership across both countries.

Project Focus:

Bright Light Projects proposes “Our Environment, Our Future,” a transformative environmental education initiative designed to equip students in 24 secondary schools across the Northwest and Southwest regions of Cameroon and 15 Schools in Bombali District in the Northern Province of Sierra Leone with the knowledge, skills, and passion to become environmental stewards and contribute to a sustainable future.

This project directly addresses the urgent need for climate action, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable development in both Cameroon and Sierra Leone, where agriculture remains a vital economic pillar and is highly vulnerable to climate change impacts, deforestation, and food insecurity. Through a comprehensive curriculum covering critical environmental issues combined with hands-on training in green job skills, reforestation techniques, and sustainable livelihood practices, “Our Environment, Our Future” will empower a new generation of youth in both countries to drive meaningful change in their schools and communities.

The project aligns with Cameroon’s National Development Strategy 2020–2030 and Vision 2035, Sierra Leone’s Medium-Term National Development Plan 2024–2030, as well as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. It offers a concrete pathway toward low-carbon development, enhanced food security, and more resilient, environmentally responsible societies.
