BLP Community Resilience Pathway

From Vulnerability to Sustainable Livelihoods

At Bright Light Projects, we believe lasting development is not achieved through one-time interventions. It is built over time—by strengthening people, families, and the community structures they trust.

The BLP Community Resilience Pathway reflects nearly a decade of engagement with vulnerable communities in Sierra Leone. What began in 2016 with the Mend the Gap (MDG) Schooling Program, supporting Ebola orphans and survivors, gradually evolved as BLP responded to the changing needs and aspirations of the families and communities we served.

A Pathway That Grew With the Community

2016

Mend the Gap Schooling Program for Vulnerable Ebola Orphans and Survivors

Our journey began by helping Ebola-affected children and vulnerable families maintain access to education and rebuild hope following the crisis.

BLP Mothers' Clubs

We recognized that supporting children also meant strengthening their caregivers. Mothers’ Clubs created spaces for family support, community connection, and greater participation by women.

2019

2023

Village Savings & Loan Associations

The pathway expanded into economic empowerment. VSLAs introduced financial literacy, savings, access to small loans, and greater household financial resilience.

VSLA Smart Agriculture Initiative

BLP began connecting the strength of existing savings groups with climate-smart agriculture—creating opportunities for food production, income generation, and more sustainable rural livelihoods.

From Support to Agency

The pathway represents a deliberate progression:

Protection & Support

Community Organization

Financial Inclusion

Productive Livelihoods

Community Resilience

For BLP, partnerships are built around shared purpose, local ownership, mutual accountability, complementary expertise, and measurable community impact.

Our Future Vision

The next stage is to help these community structures evolve into increasingly resilient rural enterprises through market access, agribusiness, value chains, digital agriculture, and community cooperatives.

Our vision is simple: communities equipped not only to overcome vulnerability, but to create opportunities, strengthen household incomes, improve food security, and build sustainable futures for the next generation.

Together, We Grow Resilience. Together, We Build Tomorrow.
