Rebuilding Broken Communities: Empowering Youth for Sustainable Futures
Our Urgent Reality
The Scars That Trap Generations
War, Ebola, and ongoing conflict have left deep scars across West Africa. In Sierra Leone’s post-civil war and Ebola-hit districts (Makeni, Bombali), Cameroon’s Anglophone crisis zones (Bamenda, Buea), and Guinea-Conakry’s rural areas, vulnerable youthespecially girls, orphans, and young men—face crushing barriers: 70%+ lack education or skills, 60% of women/girls encounter economic exclusion and GBV, trauma lingers for thousands of orphans, and environmental degradation threatens family livelihoods annually.
Because of this reality, Bright Light Projects exists to break these cycles.
Our Proven Pathway
How We Create Change
We work in Sierra Leone, Cameroon, and Guinea-Conakry to help girls, orphans, young men, and women gain practical skills, agency, and financial inclusion through trauma-informed GSR/YME training, psychosocial support, eco-ventures, and village savings & loan associations (VSLA).
This trauma-informed approach, our "secret sauce", turns vulnerability into self-reliance:
95%
Employment GBV survivors
Vocational/digital skills (fashion, graphic design, agroecology, GIS, motorbike repairs) lead to 95% employment for 540+ GBV survivors.
500+
Ebola/war orphans
Mend the Gap reintegrates 500+ Ebola/war orphans with schooling, counseling, and business starts.
100+
Hectores restored by reforesting
Reforesting Hope restores 100+ hectares, while waste/recycling cuts pollution 40% and creates green jobs.
30%
Household income boosts
Micro-grants and VSLA groups deliver 30% household income boosts, sustaining gains through community savings and loans.
Partners (WEFC-Buea, Rainbo Coalition, SLOIC-Makeni, New Visions Agriculture, and more) multiply impact, every $100 trains one youth, rippling to 200+ lives via peer mentoring and eco-cooperatives.
