Bright Light Projects Cameroon (BLPC), in partnership with the Women Empowerment and Family Centre (WEFC), successfully organized a one-day Entrepreneurship, Business Plan Development, Marketing Techniques and Bookkeeping Workshop at the WEFC Conference Hall in Buea. The training brought together more than 50 participants, including current and former Bright Light Projects beneficiaries, WEFC trainees, and members of the wider community.
The workshop formed part of BLP’s ongoing commitment to ensuring that vocational skills are complemented by practical business knowledge, enabling beneficiaries to build sustainable livelihoods through entrepreneurship and self-employment.
A unique feature of the workshop was the participation of both current and former BLP beneficiaries. By bringing these groups together, the event created a platform for peer learning, mentorship, and experience sharing, allowing successful graduates to inspire and encourage those preparing to launch their own businesses.
The interactive sessions were facilitated by experienced business practitioners who guided participants through key areas including developing an entrepreneurial mindset, preparing practical business plans, effective marketing and branding strategies, pricing products and services, customer relations, and basic bookkeeping for sound financial management. Through presentations, group exercises, and discussions, participants gained practical tools they can immediately apply to their businesses and future entrepreneurial ventures.
Speaking after the workshop, participants expressed appreciation for the practical nature of the training and the opportunity to learn from experienced entrepreneurs as well as fellow beneficiaries who have successfully started their own businesses.
The workshop reflects Bright Light Projects’ belief that vocational training alone is not enough. Equipping young women and youth with entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and business management skills significantly improves their ability to create sustainable incomes, build resilient businesses, and contribute to stronger local economies.
As Bright Light Projects continues implementing its Girls Shall Rise initiative and other youth empowerment programs across Cameroon and Sierra Leone, the organization remains committed to investing in people, promoting entrepreneurship, and creating pathways toward long-term economic independence and community resilience.
