Buea & Bamenda, Cameroon – June 5, 2026. Bright Light Projects (BLP) proudly joined the global community to commemorate World Environment Day 2026 under the theme “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.” Through vibrant activities in both Buea and Bamenda, BLP demonstrated its commitment to practical environmental action and youth leadership.
In Buea, the BLP team, in partnership with Back 2 Eden Association, Mile 15 Traditional Council, and several NGOs/CSOs, organized clean-up exercises and environmental awareness sessions with partner schools, including St. Rita Cascia Comprehensive College. Students actively participated in waste collection, campus beautification, and advocacy for responsible waste management.
In Bamenda, BLP led a comprehensive week-long program in partnership with the Network of Environmental Stakeholders in Cameroon (NESTCM). Activities included a radio environmental awareness campaign, environmental quizzes for students, a live panel discussion, tree planting exercises, and a high-level capacity-building workshop for environmental stakeholders on June 5, 2026.
These initiatives strongly align with BLP’s flagship program, “Our Environment, Our Future”, which is building a new generation of young eco-champions through Environmental Clubs in schools. The program has already reached 13,300+ students across 24 schools in Cameroon’s Northwest and Southwest regions and 10 schools in northern Sierra Leone. Students are gaining practical skills in waste management, reforestation, agroforestry, and environmental advocacy.
Complementing this effort is BLP’s Reforesting Hope Project (2023–2028), which aims to restore 100 hectares of degraded land in Bamenda, Cameroon and Makeni, Sierra Leone. So far, the project has resulted in the planting of 2,900+ saplings, contributing to biodiversity conservation, soil restoration, carbon sequestration, and improved food security through fruit tree initiatives.
“By engaging young people directly in environmental action, we are not only responding to the World Environment Day call but actively shaping a generation that is inspired by nature and committed to building a sustainable future,” said Franco Bonghan, Executive Director of Bright Light Projects.
BLP extends appreciation to all partner organizations, schools, students, and stakeholders who made these activities successful. Together, we continue to turn awareness into meaningful climate action.
