Women’s Leadership & Tree Planting: BLP Marks World Environment Day 2026 in Lower Bokova, Buea

Buea, Cameroon – June 6, 2026. Bright Light Projects (BLP), in collaboration with partner organizations, successfully commemorated World Environment Day 2026 at Lower Bokova, Mile 15, Buea. The vibrant community event brought together residents, environmental stakeholders, and representatives from various organizations to promote environmental sustainability and collective climate action under the global theme “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.”

The program featured insightful presentations, including a powerful session by BLP on “The Importance of Women’s Participation in Environmental Protection.” The discussion emphasized women’s critical role in conservation, community mobilization, sustainable resource management, and climate resilience, encouraging equal participation of both women and men in environmental initiatives.

Participants also benefited from a practical training session on tree management, covering pruning, shaping, and the safe preparation of pest and disease treatments. The day culminated in a meaningful tree-planting exercise, where community members planted trees as a lasting symbol of their commitment to environmental stewardship and climate mitigation.

The event was highly interactive, ending with reflective interviews that highlighted participants’ appreciation for the knowledge gained and their renewed commitment to sustainable practices. This activity strengthens BLP’s Reforesting Hope Project (2023–2028), which aims to restore 100 hectares of degraded land, and complements our flagship “Our Environment, Our Future” program, which has empowered 13,300+ students across 24 schools in Cameroon’s Northwest and Southwest regions and 15 schools in northern Sierra Leone, with 2,900+ saplings already planted.

BLP extends heartfelt appreciation to all partners, community members, and participants for making the day a success. Together, we continue to inspire action for a greener, more resilient future.
