Bamenda, Cameroon – June 4, 2026. As part of the week-long commemoration of World Environment Day 2026 (May 26 – June 5), the Bright Light Projects (BLP) Bamenda team joined 20 Civil Society Organizations and the Ministry of Environment, Protection of Nature and Sustainable Development (MINEPDED) for a meaningful tree donation and roundtable discussion at the Bamendakwe Palace Hall.
The team donated trees to the Bamendakwe community and engaged stakeholders in a rich roundtable focused on addressing local environmental challenges such as deforestation, waste management, and climate resilience at the community level. This activity further strengthens BLP’s Reforesting Hope Project (2023–2028), which aims to restore 100 hectares of degraded land across Bamenda and Makeni, Sierra Leone.
These engagements provide valuable opportunities for collaboration with other CSOs, creating stronger networks for more impactful environmental outcomes in the Northwest Region.
Program Impact
Through our flagship “Our Environment, Our Future” program, BLP continues to build young eco-champions, having reached 13,300+ students across 24 schools in Cameroon’s Northwest and Southwest regions and 15 schools in northern Sierra Leone, with 2,900+ saplings already planted.
Activities like today’s tree donation and stakeholder dialogue demonstrate BLP’s commitment to combining youth education with direct community action — turning inspiration from nature into real climate solutions for our future.
