On August 9, 2025, Bright Light Projects (BLP) hosted a transformative event, “Partnership for a Better Environment,” in Bamenda, Cameroon, bringing together community members, local authorities, and environmental stakeholders to address the escalating waste management crisis in the Njengang Quarter. This initiative, held in collaboration with the Bamenda City Council and waste management firm EMPIRE, underscored BLP’s commitment to environmental stewardship by empowering residents with practical solutions for sustainable waste management. The event highlighted the urgent need to address the health and environmental hazards caused by an unauthorized dump site in Njengang Quarter. This residential area is home to schools, a youth center, and numerous families.
For three years, Njengang Quarters has been plagued by a growing dump site, resulting in polluted streams, an influx of rampant insects, and a rise in frequent illnesses among residents. During the event, BLP’s Program Manager, Shing Praise Wandia, emphasized the importance of community-driven waste sorting and disposal practices to mitigate these risks. Through workshops, hands-on demonstrations, and open dialogues with community leaders such as Ngecha Telemacus and City Councilor Nfoncho Robert, attendees learned how to transform waste into a resource while advocating for immediate cleanup actions. The event also spotlighted BLP’s ongoing efforts to educate communities on sustainable practices, ensuring cleaner and safer neighborhoods.
BLP’s “Partnership for a Better Environment” event marks a significant step toward a sustainable future for Bamenda. By fostering collaboration between residents, local government, and private partners like EMPIRE, BLP is paving the way for healthier communities. We extend our gratitude to all participants and reaffirm our dedication to driving impactful environmental change. Stay tuned for more updates on our initiatives, and join us in building a cleaner, greener Bamenda!
