Case for Support

Bright Light Projects (BLP)

Empowering Youth, Rebuilding Communities, Sustaining Our Planet

Bright Light Projects (BLP)

Is a 501(c)(3) non-profit headquartered in Houston, TX, with registrations in Sierra Leone and Cameroon, and operations in Nigeria and Guinea-Conakry. We foster resilient communities across economic growth, social inclusion, and environmental protection—through direct support, capacity building, and strategic partnerships (e.g., 2014 Concert for Ebola Relief benefiting Doctors Without Borders). With UN accreditations—ECOSOC (2021), UNEP/UNCCD/IPBES (2025)—BLP advances the SDGs (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 13, 16, 17) and Africa’s Agenda 2063. Integrating Gender-Sensitive Resilience (GSR) and Youth Mainstreaming for Empowerment (YME), we view skills development as the ultimate anti-poverty tool, embedding equity and agency for equitable futures.

The Challenge: Broken Communities in Crisis

In Cameroon’s Anglophone highlands (Bamenda/Buea), Sierra Leone’s post-Ebola districts (Makeni/Bombali), and Guinea-Conakry’s rural areas (Forecariah/Gueckedou), urbanization, waste pollution, and shocks like conflict/climate exacerbate poverty: 70%+ youth lack education/skills, women/girls face GBV/stigma (60% economic barriers), and Ebola orphans endure trauma/marginalization. Land degradation affects 5,000+ families annually, with agriculture accounting for 69% of regional GHG emissions. BLP rebuilds via GSR/YME, turning vulnerability into self-reliance.

Our Solution: Holistic, Integrated Programs for Resilience

BLP’s initiatives span skills, livelihoods, environment, and advocacy—methodology: direct engagement, monitoring, and sustainable capacity building:

Youth Empowerment (GSR/YME/Mend the Gap)

GSR (2018-2028) aids 540+ GBV survivors (95% employed post-training) with skills (fashion, graphic design, catering and Hotel Management, Motor bike repairs, glass cutting, Computer Information Systems) and advocacy (BLP Mothers Club, SAVE OUR GIRLS, Choking the Highlands, BLP Free Computer Training, Adolescent Youth Leadership & Mentorship); Young Men Entrepreneurship -YME (2022-2030) mentors 112+ young men (18-25) in entrepreneurship/reintegration; Mend the Gap (2017-2027) supports Ebola orphans in Sierra Leone/Guinea with schooling, psychosocial care, and vocational training (pilots in Bombali/Western Area Rural districts of Sierra Leone, and  Forecariah and Gueckedou prefecture in Guinea Conakry.

Environmental Sustainability (#7)

Reforesting Hope (2023-2028) restores 100hectares in Bamenda, Cameroon and Makeni, Sierra Leone; Waste Management/Recycling (2023-2027) cuts pollution 40%, creates jobs; Our Environment Our Future (2025-2028) equips 5,000+ students/teachers with agroecology, recycling, solar/green entrepreneurship curricula.

Youth Empowerment (GSR/YME/Mend the Gap)

Micro-grants for eco-ventures (30-40% income boosts); #LearnTeachSDGs (1,000+ grads, targeting 100,000 by 2030); ACYSDR roundtables/summits for youth-led SDG action.

Guided by "Rebuilding Broken Communities," we tie regenerative agriculture and computer literacy to circular economies, aligning SDGs for poverty alleviation (1), gender equality (5), Affordable and Clean Energy (7), Partnerships for the Goals (17), and climate action (13).
