Bright Light Projects Joins MINPROFF and Partners in Buea to Demand an End to Femicide in Cameroon

BLP Reaffirms Its Commitment to Women’s Protection, Economic Empowerment, and Community Resilience

Buea, Cameroon | October 9, 2026

Bright Light Projects Cameroon (BLPC) joined the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and the Family (MINPROFF), South West Region, alongside civil society organizations and community stakeholders, in a solidarity walk through Buea to raise awareness and demand an end to femicide and all forms of violence against women and girls.

Held under the collective motto “One Message, One Fight,” the march brought together government representatives, community advocates, and development organizations united by growing concerns over the killing of women and girls, including cases involving intimate partners.

The campaign delivered a powerful message: women’s lives matter, violence must never be normalized, and communities have a collective responsibility to prevent abuse and protect those at risk.

Beyond Advocacy: Addressing the Root Causes of Vulnerability

For Bright Light Projects, participation in the campaign reflects a longstanding commitment to protecting and empowering vulnerable women and girls.

Since 2016, BLP has worked to strengthen opportunities for girls and young women affected by poverty, displacement, gender-based violence, and other forms of vulnerability through its flagship Girls Shall Rise (GSR) program.

Through vocational education, psychosocial support, entrepreneurship development, mentorship, and economic empowerment initiatives, Girls Shall Rise helps participants develop practical skills, rebuild confidence, strengthen their livelihoods, and pursue greater economic independence.

While economic empowerment alone cannot eliminate femicide, it is an important part of a broader response that must also include prevention, survivor-centered services, access to justice, safe reporting mechanisms, and stronger community protection systems.

BLP believes that protecting women from violence and expanding their opportunities for economic independence must go hand in hand.

Strengthening Partnerships for Long-Term Change

BLP commends MINPROFF South West Region and participating organizations for mobilizing communities around this urgent issue.

The October 9 solidarity walk forms part of broader efforts to raise awareness, strengthen advocacy, and promote the protection of women and girls. Additional community activities and workshops are expected in the coming weeks.

Bright Light Projects Cameroon remains committed to collaborating with government institutions, women’s organizations, faith and community leaders, and development partners to advance sustained, community-based approaches to preventing violence against women and girls.

Building on its experience through Girls Shall Rise and other community protection initiatives, BLP will continue advocating for solutions that combine awareness, protection, skills development, economic opportunities, and community resilience.

Our Commitment

Femicide is not simply a women’s issue. It is a human rights issue, a community protection issue, and a challenge to our collective humanity.

Every woman deserves to live free from fear. Every girl deserves to grow up in safety. And every community has a responsibility to reject violence, protect survivors, and hold perpetrators accountable.

ONE MESSAGE. ONE FIGHT. END FEMICIDE.
