Bright Light Projects Launches “Reforestation Hope” on International Day of Forests 2025 in Bombali

Bright Light Projects Sierra Leone (BLPSL), working together with Save Life Initiative (SLI), officially launched its new flagship program, “Reforestation Hope,” on March 21, 2025, in Bombali District. The launch event took place at Pate-Bana Masimbo in the Matak Community and was part of this year’s International Day of Forests celebrations under the theme “Forests and Food.” The initiative focuses on creating sustainable landscapes in both Bamenda, Cameroon, and Makeni, Sierra Leone.

The event brought together community members, local leaders, and representatives from different organizations. Everyone gathered with a shared purpose — to highlight the importance of forests, raise awareness about environmental protection, and encourage sustainable practices at the community level. The atmosphere was energetic, with participants showing strong support for the project’s goals.

Speaking during the event, Mr. Samuel Alpha Thoronka, the Coordinator of BLPSL, stressed the critical role forests play in maintaining life, fighting climate change, and preserving biodiversity. He called on everyone present to join hands in protecting forest resources and adopting habits that will ensure a healthy environment for future generations. His message echoed the urgent need for collaboration in addressing environmental challenges.

The launch was also attended by representatives from key government ministries, including the Ministry of Environment, attached to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, Forestry, and Security. Other groups like the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) and the Youth Initiative Actions for Sustainable Development (YASDSL) were also present. They commended BLPSL for organizing the event and expressed their willingness to partner in future projects.

A major highlight of the day was the active participation of community leaders and residents, who voiced their commitment to supporting the reforestation project. Their enthusiasm and involvement gave the project a strong foundation and demonstrated that local ownership is key to successful environmental conservation efforts.

The celebration created a strong sense of unity and a renewed focus on protecting natural resources. By launching the Reforestation Hope project on the International Day of Forests, BLPSL and SLI sent a powerful message about the need to act now to protect forests and secure food systems for the future.

Bright Light Projects Sierra Leone and Save Life Initiative thanked all those who attended and contributed to the success of the launch. They expressed hope that the partnerships and energy seen at the event would lead to more impactful actions and lasting environmental change in the months and years ahead.
