Bamenda, Cameroon β November 7, 2025 β In a dynamic continuation of Bright Light Projects’ (BLP) flagship Our Environment, Our Future school program, the Bamenda team, alongside our dedicated partner, the Association for the Development of Education, Peace, and Community Outreach (ASDEPCO), engaged eager students at Christ the King College. This hands-on session was built on the program’s recent launch on October 31, reinforcing BLP’s unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability within our broader Reforestation Hope Projects, which target the restoration of 100 hectares of degraded land in Cameroon and Sierra Leone by 2028.
The interactive workshop delved into the essence of our environment, exploring its core componentsβfrom vibrant ecosystems to essential resourcesβand the profound ways human actions shape its future. Over 500 students listened intently, their curiosity piqued as they posed thoughtful questions about climate resilience and biodiversity loss. Facilitators emphasized actionable steps for protection: avoiding improper waste disposal, reducing reliance on inorganic fertilizers that harm soil health, and curbing deforestation to preserve vital carbon sinks and community livelihoods. The session wrapped up with a clear roadmap for upcoming activities, from tree-planting drives to agroforestry workshops, priming participants for deeper involvement.
Fostering Tomorrow’s Ambassadors
This initiative, part of the Partnership for a Better Environment, aligns seamlessly with global calls, such as the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. By empowering youth through education and engagement, BLP has now reached over 10,500 students across 75 schools in Cameroon’s Northwest and Southwest regions, plus 25 in Makeni, Sierra Leone, resulting in 5,500+ saplings planted to date. Early impacts include enhanced food self-sufficiency through fruit tree initiatives, which boost harvest resilience by up to 20% in participating communities. As one student shared, “We’re ready to lead, not just learn, protecting our home for generations.”
BLP’s efforts continue to weave environmental literacy into everyday action, turning knowledge into lasting change. We invite schools, partners, and supporters to join this vital movement volunteer, donate, or collaborate today!
