Bamenda, Cameroon – February 27, 2026 – The Bright Light Projects (BLP) Bamenda team delivered a highly interactive Eco-Club program at Government Bilingual High School (GBHS) Bayelle-Nkwen, engaging over 50 dedicated Eco club members in a transformative session. The program spotlighted the critical importance of proper waste management, reforestation and afforestation, and the links between environmental protection and human rights. Students explored the disadvantages of unchecked deforestation without compensatory afforestation, the various types of environmental waste pollution (including plastic, organic, and chemical sources), their root causes, and the profound impacts on community health, ecosystems, and peaceful coexistence.
Through dynamic discussions, group activities, and real-world examples, the session equipped these young leaders with essential environmental awareness and life skills to champion sustainable practices and promote harmony in their communities. This engagement reinforces BLP’s Our Environment, Our Future initiative as a cornerstone for building resilient youth, now inspiring 13,300+ students across 24 schools in Cameroon’s Northwest and Southwest regions and 15 schools in northern Sierra Leone. With 2,900+ saplings already planted toward our 100-hectare restoration goal by 2028, we’re fostering food security, biodiversity, and community ownership one interactive session at a time. As one participant shared, “We’re learning how to protect our rights to a clean environment, it’s our future!”
BLP invites partners and supporters to join this growing movement: donate seedlings, waste bins, or volunteer for upcoming Eco-Club sessions to amplify impact in conflict-affected and vulnerable areas.
