Bright Light Projects Joins Global Call to End Digital Violence Against Women and Girls. Buea, Cameroon & Makeni, Sierra Leone – November 28, 2025

Bright Light Projects (BLP), a leading advocate for youth empowerment and gender equality in West and Central Africa, is amplifying its commitment to safer digital spaces during the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV), running from November 25 to December 10. Under the global theme “UNiTE to End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls”, BLP’s teams in Cameroon and Sierra Leone are launching coordinated campaigns to combat online harassment, cyberbullying, non-consensual image sharing, and digital stalking threats that disproportionately affect women and girls in conflict-affected and underserved communities.

In Cameroon, BLP’s Southwest Region team at the Women Empowerment and Family Centre (WEFC) in Buea will kick off with three radio awareness sessions on CBC Radio, introducing the theme, unpacking forms of digital abuse, and sharing practical tips for online safety and reporting. These broadcasts will engage thousands of listeners, encouraging responsible tech use and survivor support. Complementing this, BLP will design and distribute informational flyers featuring survivor quotes and end with a December 10 workshop for 50 young women and girls, focusing on digital literacy and advocacy skills. “Digital violence silences voices in our Anglophone crisis-hit regions,” said Franco Bonghan, BLP Executive Director. “Through education and action, we’re equipping girls to reclaim their online spaces.”

Meanwhile, in Sierra Leone’s Northern Region, the BLP Sierra Leone (BLPSL) team in Makeni adapts the theme locally as “Leh We Cam Togeder Fo Tap Digital Violence Against We Uman En Gyal Pikin Dem” (Let’s Come Together to Stop Digital Violence Against Our Women and Girls). Activities include a campaign launch, school assembly talks and presentations reaching 1,000+ pupils and teachers, online safety training for 200 youth champions, radio talk shows, a partnership visit to a local mobile company to promote anti-abuse initiatives, daily social media posts, community sensitization sessions, and youth dialogues involving boys and girls. These efforts target women, girls, schools, youth groups, parents, survivors, and community leaders, fostering positive online masculinity and stronger referral pathways.

BLP’s unified approach aligns with UN SDGs 5 (Gender Equality) and 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), drawing on its track record of empowering over 540 girls through Girls Shall Rise since 2018. Expected outcomes include heightened awareness for 5,000+ individuals, improved digital safety skills, empowered survivor reporting, and sustained community champions advocating on December 10, Human Rights Day. By bridging offline GBV roots with digital harms, BLP is building resilient, inclusive communities where technology empowers rather than endangers.
